________________
Glitches is a handwoven series that challenges the rigid grid of traditional weaving, embracing uncertainty and chaos as integral parts of the process. By intentionally disrupting patterns and allowing irregularities to emerge, this work rebels against the constraints of order, inviting the unexpected to shape the final outcome.
At its core, Glitches reflects the spirit of our times—a glitch in the matrix, a moment of disruption in a world unlearning idealized, expected norms of perfection. The series embodies a trust in process over control, finding beauty in imperfections and echoes of resilience within disorder. It reminds us that even amidst chaos, there is meaning, rhythm, and an opportunity to reimagine the systems we navigate.
Textiles often tell stories, both historically and in the present, and this series offers the artist’s interpretation of the times. For the artist, it feels like a pivotal moment in her creative journey as a Filipino diasporas artist. Honoring traditional patterns is essential, but Glitches also questions what changes need to happen (perhaps culturally and in society in general) and what stories need to be told at this moment in history. The work invites reflection on the messiness of the world and the cultural narratives that shape it, urging a reimagining of the future through the lens of disruption and transformation.
